The Euro model joins our Consensus Forecast

In early June 2023 we released our Euro model at Jane's Weather.

This means we now have four individual models driving our Consensus Forecast, and the latest model is one of the best on the globe.

For now it is their low resolution version, that we have interpolated out to an hour by hour time scale for the next 10 days, and a 20 x 20 km spatial scale. The higher resolution version is coming soon, which will bring the spatial resolution to 9 x 9 km, and improve the hour by hour data.

The Euro is shown on our Consensus in a teal green colour:

You can see the data as one of the individual models that make up our Consensus, or by selecting the Euro to show by itself (make the new selection under Weather Model).

When we first launch this feature, the data is in beta mode. We are working on solutions for the following problems:

  • wind gusts are only appropriate for locations below 400 metres in elevation - so they will be too light on the ranges and in the alps
  • cloud percentages have been approximated (from the integration of relative humidity at relevant heights in the atmosphere)
  • as the data is interpolated from three hourly time steps in the first six days, and six hourly time steps for the last four days, it has its limitations - especially with temperature and rain - it will struggle to pick up the extremes (ie minimums and maximums are actually lower and higher than shown)
