All about the Forecast page - How to understand everything that is on it

Here is what you can do on the Forecast page.

The forecast summary is on the left hand side and across the top. Temperature and weather icon are in the 'worm' hour by hour moving from left to right. Rain/snow and wind are below that, and all variables are shown at the bottom of the screen for the hour selected.

Tip: click 'show temp' and 'show precip' to see the 'clean' consensus forecast with less detail.

Forecast Summary

Across the top, day by day, and pulled out from the left hand side button.

A summary of the overnight low, daytime high, possible rain and possible snow (rain and snow show a range from the individual weather models).

Graph

Temperature is displayed in a line from left to right through time. Temperature and icon are marked, and use the left axis.

Rain and snow are displayed in bars underneath. The possible amount is marked and uses the right axis.

Wind is below rain/snow. The speed (the average over 10 minutes) and gust (the highest speed in that time) are marked by colour.

Model Selector

Select the Jane's Weather Consensus, a blend of all the weather models, or see the data from each individual model. See what time the data from that model was last updated, and when the next update is due.

On Consensus you can see each individual models data side by side, by selecting 'Show Temp' and 'Show Precip'. If the output is close together (a small spread) there is high confidence in the outcome. If the guidance is far apart there is low confidence in the outcome.

Forwards/Backwards controls

|< takes you back to the beginning

<< takes you back one time step (also left on your keyboard)

play/pause

>> takes you forward one time step (also right on your keyboard)

>| takes you to the end

The value of 'one time step' and the speed of play can be configured under settings (far right on the Timeline Controls, and within User Settings).

Bottom Data

We couldn't come up with a better name for it! But this is where all the variables are shown for each step in time. Here is what some of them mean:
