While southern parts are taking a break from the heat, the wet weather is increasing in the north.
Low pressure and an abundance of moisture are working together to produce widespread rain, with impressive totals already, including 145mm just off Port Douglas and 114mm in Innisfail.

The guidance shows that both the Gulf and the east coast are likely to see the heaviest rain (with more than 200mm across a widespread area), but even inland parts are likely to see 50 to 150 mm, and the rain extends further southwards beyond Mackay.

If you're waiting for further rainfall in the southeast, this could feed a weather system due later this week. See the day by day rain maps for more - and for a longer term outlook, don't miss my weekly update from last Friday that goes into the possibilities for rain next week.
