Southeastern Australia has woken to a widespread frost event this morning, setting new records in some sites.

The coldest temperature appears to be -8.0C in Fingal in Tasmania.

The coldest in Victoria is the (well named) Coldstream with -5.3C. That's a new record for May (with 30 years of observations), and their coldest temperature since July 2017.

In South Australia, the chilliest was -4.5C at Padthaway. This is now their coldest night on record (for any time of year), with 25 years of observations.

Minimum temperatures across the southeast on Monday morning

We haven't finished with the chill. Chilly air from the weekend's cold outbreak is lingering, and with high pressure overhead the winds are light and the sky is clear. There is another frost night likely tonight:

Forecast temperature for Tuesday morning

Winds turn northerly on Tuesday, and a little rain arrives on Wednesday, bringing a break from the frost for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.
