The ANZAC rain system has moved on, with another system due early to mid this week

The southeast had a weather system move through over the ANZAC long weekend delivering good rain for some, and lighter falls for others.

On Monday morning, the low that brought the rain is now well out to sea off the NSW coast.

However, there is a little more to come for the NSW coast today as the low extends a trough back towards land, and the airflow is onshore.

Meanwhile, looking at the belt of high pressure that runs across the south, the main centre is back southwest of Perth.

That positioning means that the southeast has more weather systems to come over the next few days, and that it remains on the 'cool' side of the high.

There is a trough just to the south of the mainland that is the next big feature. It's crossing the southeast over the next few days, delivering more rain.

This feature doesn't have any connection to tropical moisture - so it is only fed by the waters to the south and then the Tasman Sea as it passes through.

That means that it won't spread rain inland, but it'll deliver more significant rain for Gippsland in eastern Victoria, NSW east of the ranges, and southeast Queensland.

Potential rainfall over the next week

The high moves to the southeast on Friday, turning it dry for SA, VIC and TAS, and letting it thaw out over the weekend as the high moves to the Tasman Sea. This positioning provides onshore winds for NSW and Queensland with stream showers continuing.

Meanwhile, with the high out of the way for the southwest, the first in a series of cold fronts pushes through later Friday into Saturday, with more to follow lasting into early next week. This rainfall is different to the last few - these are purely cold fronts, bringing the heaviest rain to the coast, drying up as they move inland.
