Stretch of alpine sunshine this week before conditions change on Friday

This week brings a lot of rain to eastern NSW and southeast QLD, while high pressure moves over the southeast and out to the Tasman Sea.

This pattern ensures a long stretch of sunshine for most alpine resorts. Nights begin cold, but slowly warm as the days do too.

The far eastern resorts (ie parts of the NSW alps) could see a bit of cloud from the weather to the north, at times on Wednesday and Thursday, with a hint of drizzle in there, while the bright sunshine continues further west.

Things change on Friday.

Considering how much moisture is pouring into both the east and west of the country this week it is amazing how little of that will make its way to the southeast from Friday to Monday. The alps do not want it anyway, as the air will be far too warm.

What is most likely is some rain at times, predominantly light, on Friday and Saturday. Most alpine areas look dry for much of Sunday and Monday.

----

Things change again next Tuesday.

Tuesday into Wednesday is likely to be the next big weather system for the alps. At this stage there is only enough cold air for snow up high for much of Tuesday, but there could be a surge of cold later Tuesday or on Wednesday to turn it into snow about more elevations.
