Northerly winds howl to begin the week as temperatures spike, ahead of rain developing and changing to snow when the cold air catches up.
The catch up is likely to occur on the highest peaks on Tuesday afternoon into evening (west to east), bringing up to 15cm up high, then the snow lowers after the main precipitation has passed with a few centimetres in the tail late Tuesday, and in snow showers on Wednesday.
The next dry day is Thursday when northerly winds let temperatures spike again. This sets us up for another period of rain on Friday, all too warm for snow.
The cold air catches up late Friday night/in the early hours of Saturday, and then things look a lot better.
There is the potential for snow showers to last not just Saturday and Sunday, but Monday and Tuesday too, depending on how long the next high remains back to our west letting disturbances continue to pass through.
This could bring anywhere from 10 to 50 cm of snow, highly dependent on how long it lasts and how unstable the air is once the cold air arrives to kick off the weekend.
