Nearly a week of wet weather kicking off in the southwest

A significant weather system is approaching the southwest, ready to kick off nearly a week of wet weather.

Tuesday morning's satellite shows a huge band of cloud, fed by warm water from the tropical Indian Ocean, with some rain already crossing the coast:

Over the next few days totals are likely to be significant on the western coast, from Geraldton southwards, with 25 to 50 mm of rain. Some of this spreads inland, but it tapers off as it does:

The heaviest falls are likely to be on Wednesday, when most of the 25 to 50 mm should fall near the west coast:

And this is just the first weather system. The next one begins on Friday and lasts through the weekend, adding to the totals.

By early next week there may be 50 to 100 mm for a large part of the west coast.
