Gusty northerly winds make it far too warm for snow on Friday as a trough brings some wet weather.
But that rapidly changes late Friday night into the early hours of Saturday. This weather system is a one-two punch, and the second part looks great. Snow continues for much of Saturday.
We're not done, this front is the first in a series of them that should take us through to Tuesday.
Bursts of cold air coming up from the southwest, delivering snow across the alpine area. And Monday's front looks extra chilly, with snow falling down onto the hills.
But.. there is a slight warm up before the second front arrives, that may make it a little ugly later on Sunday. Temperatures are likely to slowly rise as we go through Sunday - but by early Monday that is a distant memory and the proper cold air is here.
-> 10 to 30 cm of snow is likely from the weekend into early in the week.
There may be more to follow at the end of next week. Problem is, we need to wait for consensus across the models before we have any confidence in the outcome. When the models are saying different things (from model to model, but also from update to update), then our confidence is low. Look for a tightening up of the spread of the different guidance for a better indicator of what is most likely to occur.
