Weekly Weather Outlook
This week, we take a closer look at the seasonal forecast, which is currently pointing towards below-average rainfall conditions in the weeks ahead. We’ll unpack the key climate drivers behind this outlook, including El Niño, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), the Southern Annular Mode (SAM), and the Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO), to provide a comprehensive overview of what may be coming in the near future.
We’ll also take a look at the weather of the week, with multiple cold fronts moving across the south. The strongest system has arrived between Saturday and Monday, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall, strong winds and localised flooding across large parts of southeastern Australia.
Following this wet and windy start to the week, conditions are expected to gradually ease across much of the country. As the skies clear, colder morning temperatures will develop, with the potential for localised frost in some areas.
Stay safe, stay warm, and keep an eye on the latest forecasts as these systems move through.
