Collaborating with Ag Logic, Tasmania - Simplot has integrated the Ag Logic weather station network into Jane’s Weather PRO, providing hyper-local, optimised forecasts tailored to their specific field microclimates.
The Challenge is Modernising Grower Operations with Precise Weather Data
Simplot sought to enhance growers' operations by incorporating advanced weather forecasting tools. Key challenges included;
Accurate Rainfall Forecating
Implementing a system that presents various rainfall forecasts from the all the weather models and then set notifications based on specific thresholds.
Enhancing Forecasting Variables
Integrating additional forecast variables for a heads up on Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) for example - to optimise our crop management.
Customised Microclimate Data
Allowing precise location settings to ensure forecasts accurately reflect specific field forecasts. To be on the front foot with frost and spraying conditions for example - for that field.
User-Friendly Enterprise Management
An enterprise-level platform where administrators can add users, weather stations and custom climates efficiently.
The Solution is Jane’s Weather PRO TEAMS
Jane's Weather is Partners with Ag Logic, Tasmania’s leading supplier of agriculture-focused monitoring equipment and precision agricultural services. Ag Logic operate a mesonet consisting of over 40 weather stations throughout the main agricultural areas of Tasmania, providing access via their subscription service to over 300 users. Simplot integrated Ag Logic's weather station network to their Jane’s Weather PRO accounts, now they benefit from hyper-local tailored forecasts for their key operational areas. This collaboration has also provided Simplot with;
Rainfall Forecasts From All Corners
A feature in Jane's Weather PRO allows users to stack and compare everyone's rain forecast (e.g. at 1pm Friday, BoM say's 2mm, Euro say's 5mm, USA say's 0mm, CAN say's 10mm and Jane's Weather say's 6mm) so you have more confidence on making that decision around predicted rainfall.
eTo and Rainfall Forecasts
Displaying both evapotranspiration (eTo) forecasts and predicted rainfall side by side enable comprehensive at a glance irrigation planning.
Customisable Location Settings
Installing a weather station and inputting precise latitude and longitude coordinates for specific fields, ensures forecasts are accurately tailored to exact microclimates with Jane's Weather AI Forecast - rather than generalised areas that could have an official weather station 100km away.
PAR Light Forecasts
Further development of advanced grower specific forecasts like Photosynthetically Active Radiation to even further assist in crop growth optimisation.
Enterprise-Level Functionality
Allowing administrators to add users and climates, facilitating seamless management across the grower network.
