Operating eight farms and collaborating with a network of growers, Perfection Fresh joined Jane’s Weather PRO as an Enterprise Co-Design Partner in early 2024 seeking a weather forecasting solution to replace their previous weather provider. With a focus on crop-specific alerts and custom thresholds to inform them on crop specific weather threats. Their input is helping us shape the future of weather forecasting in horticulture.

Here’s how Jane’s Weather PRO is helping Perfection Fresh optimize operations and maintain their leadership in fresh produce innovation.

The Challenge is Precision Weather in a Streamlined Platform that Everyone can Rely On

Crop-Specific Weather Alerts
Managing diverse crops like bananas, tomatoes, and pears requires precise weather insights tailored to each crop’s unique growth stages. For example, frost during dormancy may not be an issue, but during flowering, it’s critical.

Replacing our Previous Weather Platform
Perfection Fresh previously used another weather insight provider for their farms, crop cycle modeling, and alert systems. After their previous provider closed its doors, they sought a platform to fill this gap.

Enterprise-Level Alert Distribution
With farms spanning multiple states and a large operational team, the company needs a system to distribute weather notifications alerts across their supply chain effectively. This includes customisable alerts like a “Banana Alert” for a specific crop in a specific state for example. Soon all Jane’s Weather PRO users will be able to build your own weather custom notifications - for example.
- We want to name a custom notification like “Apple Risk at My Orchard” for example - We want to set the weather variable parameters for this custom notification i.e [10m of rain] + [<10 degrees celsius] + [24-hour period].
- We want to add the unique field or farm's microclimate as the location for this notification.
- We want to then receive the “Apple Risk at My Orchard” notification if these weather events are forecasted to happen together in the next 10 days.
- We want the accurate and reliable AI driven weather forecast data backing that notification that specific orchard’s unique microclimate. 

The Solution is Co-Designing Jane’s Weather PRO for Perfection Fresh

Through collaboration, Jane’s Weather is working on many features that will address Perfection Fresh and growers' unique needs in horticulture, enabling them to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.‍

Perfection Fresh will continue to collaborate with Jane’s Weather as we develop features such as;

• Pest and disease forecasting models, including thresholds for mildew risks or pest outbreaks.
• An enterprise multi-user version of Jane’s Weather PRO for weather management across multiple farms and multiple team members.
• Advanced custom weather alert and notification functionalities that complement their day to day crop specific monitoring and management.
